Ask for a public healthcare recovery plan

Personalise the first paragraph with your local hospital, clinic, rest home, or family experience. Keep the asks specific. MPs can dodge outrage; they have a harder time dodging measurable commitments.

Subject: Please publish a measurable healthcare recovery plan for [your electorate/region]

Kia ora [MP name],

I am writing as a resident of [suburb/town] because New Zealand's public healthcare system is showing signs of failure that can no longer be treated as isolated pressure points.

The pattern is clear: psychological distress is high, young adults are reaching specialist services less often, public-hospital nursing shifts are below target staffing, mental-health nurses report threats and assaults, aged residential care faces serious bed pressure, and courts and prisons are absorbing severe mental-health need that should have been met earlier.

I am asking you to publicly support a healthcare recovery plan with measurable commitments in five areas:

  1. Safe nurse staffing by ward and shift, with public reporting.
  2. Faster access to mental health and addiction support, especially for young adults and early psychosis.
  3. Retention funding for nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and allied health staff.
  4. Aged-care capacity, dementia care, and home support that reduce avoidable hospital gridlock.
  5. Full transparency for any private healthcare contract, including cost, outcomes, complications, workforce impact, and equity impact.

Please reply with your position on these five commitments and what action you will take this parliamentary term to make them happen.

Nga mihi,
